Is your child or adolescent:|
Children and teens may be unable to put their thoughts and feelings into words when overwhelmed or distressed. Consequently, they often end up acting out instead, beginning a downward spiral from which they cannot free themselves. Even the most caring, concerned parents may be at a loss as to how to help.
experiencing behavioral difficulties?
angry and defiant?
withdrawn and sullen?
facing declines in school performance?
complaining about difficulties with friends? Or that he or she has no friends?
engaging in self-destructive behaviors, such as substance abuse or cutting?
My training and experience in child and adolescent therapy has prepared me to understand what cannot be put into words. I am trained to help children resolve the issues that underlie their depression, anxiety, defiance, academic struggles, and peer relationship difficulties.
I work closely with parents, considering them part of the treatment team. Sometimes this means doing sessions with parents and children together. At other times, this means seeing the child individually and meeting with parents separately to hear how things are progressing at home and offering parenting strategies that may be useful based on what I understand about their particular child.
